World Oceans Day, a Time for Reflection and Connection

The theme of this year’s World Oceans Day is preventing plastic pollution and ensuring the health of our world’s ocean.

No one is better equipped to study the effects of pollution and climate change in the deep ocean than ocean scientists and explorers, like those onboard NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer, E/V Nautilus, and R/V Falkor. Research and exploration vessels help us understand the ocean, and these three give us a glimpse of the bottom during their expeditions.

The cameras attached to their live-streaming, remotely-operated submersibles sometimes, unfortunately, remind the world how far plastic pollution strays from our cities and towns.

GSO’s Inner Space Center will be hosting a World Oceans Day Tri-Ship Connection on June 8th, 3:00-4:00 Eastern. Tune in to hear from scientists, engineers, and other crew as they discuss the important work they are conducting to understand our changing ocean.
