March 10 winter moth and apple update – WM eggs still orange
Hi Fruit Growers,
Winter moth eggs have not started to hatch and I don’t expect them to hatch until we have a little bit of green tissue showing on the apple flower buds. With this warm weather and forecasted warmish weather, we could see green tip some time next week.
This is a good week to apply copper and oil. Copper helps to control fire blight and oil helps to control winter moth eggs, European red mite eggs, and San Jose scale.
RIFGA annual meeting is March 23 at 6:00 at the RI Farm Bureau office. Please see attached notice and let me know that you are coming. We have Dr. Angela Myracle coming all the way from Orono, Maine to talk to us about plums and berries you may want to try growing.
