The June twilight meeting will be at Cook’s Valley Farm in Wrentham, MA on Thursday June 18. This meeting is nice and close so there is no excuse for not attending! The address is 2200 West St., Wrentham, MA and their number is 508-883-6709.

To get to Cook’s Valley Farm from Route 295:
Take exit 9B for RI-146/RI-99
Follow signs for Woonsocket/RI-122/Cumberland/RI-99 and merge onto RI-99 N
Turn right at Mendon Rd/RI-122. Drive 1 mile.
Turn left at W Wrentham Rd and travel 2.7 miles (pass Route 114)
Take a slight left at Jencks Rd and continue 1 mile (entering Massachusetts)
Turn right at West St. Travel 1 mile to Cook’s Valley Farm.

The cost of the meeting is $20 per farm and 2 hours of pesticide recertification credits are available. The meeting starts promptly at 5:30.

I’ve been looking hard for fresh plum curculio scars at URI’s East Farm orchard. I have not found any scars even though the last time the orchard was sprayed was May 19. I really think we don’t need to be concerned with this pest this season.

If you are trying to battle apple scab, it must be quite a battle with all this damp weather. If your apple trees do have scab, continue with full rates of Captan. If your orchard is scab-free, you can extend your spray interval to two weeks. With all this wet weather I am reluctant to recommend a longer interval between fungicide applications.

The wet, cool weather is inhibiting European red mites from building. It shouldn’t be necessary to control mites at this time.
